HOMOEOPATHY TREATMENT FOR ACUTE GASTRITIS (FOOD POISONING) WITH KETOSIS IN TYPE 1 DIABETES

A 11 yrs. old child had complaints of vomiting and abdomen pain since one day. She is a known case of Type 1 Diabetes and was under insulin. Her complaints started after she ate outside food. Initially vomitus consisted of undigested food particles and later on it became watery mucoid and then gradually turned into greenish-yellowish. She was refusing food and water intake due to fear of abdomen pain and vomiting.

Throughout the day she was lying down silently and did not like anybody questioning her. At times she was getting angry if anybody disturbed her. If asked for any sign of improvement in health after giving medicines she would reply “I don’t know”. If requested to take at least a sip of water she would get angry.

She was given homoeopathic medicine nux vomica, arsenic album, bryonia and cocculus on day one. However, no sign of improvement was evident. Her urine ketone levels was increased upto 4 plus but her blood glucose levels were within normal range. She was refusing to take even water and also oral rehydrating solutions, so finally advised for hospital admission to prevent dehydration. At hospital she was put on normal saline and started on antacids and anti emetics. Even then her state of health did not improve. Vomiting episodes continued.

At hospital her case was studied further and homoeopathic medicine Chamomilla was given in infrequent doses as per the indications. She vomited once but was comfortable. Within few hours her vomiting stopped. Then gradually her thirst and appetite improved. She took water and soups with confidence. She was mentally relaxed. She was co-operative and completely fine. She was answering well all the questions asked. Her urine ketone level was improved. She was discharged from the hospital after 24 hours of observation.

Note: Chamomilla is used in this case as per the indications. In all cases Chamomilla cannot be given. Every case has it’s unique presentation for prescription. Same medicine cannot be used for all the patients suffering from same disease condition. Homoeopathic medicines should be always taken under physician’s guidance only.
